Last Saturday they were 16-4 ahead early in the second period at Warrington Wolves only to stumble late on 22-20 having also fallen by just six points against champions Wigan Warriors on Easter Monday.

Huby, who debuted for Castleford in 2003, said: “It was a matter of finishing the game off at Warrington.

“We just lacked a bit of smartness and ultimately it cost us the game.

“But we can also take a lot from all three games (Wakefield lost 42-24 at Castleford on Good Friday).

“We are there or thereabouts in most and we’re not lacking effort. Sometimes effort doesn’t get the result you need and it has been mentally and physically draining.

“We have had a bit of time off and we’ve got to regroup now and get ready for Catalans.

“We are not sitting too badly in the table at the minute, but we need to get better.

“We can’t continue this unlucky streak we are on.”

Huby, who spent the last two seasons at Huddersfield Giants after leaving Castleford, was in the side that won 38-18 in Perpignan only last month.

“The next three or four games are quite important for us and they could shape our season,” he said, having won five from six before this recent slump.

“We have hit a bit of a stumbling block, but there’s a lot of positives from the games we’ve played.

“We just need to tweak a few things and we are not far off.”

Huby played 241 times for hometown Castleford and added another 47 appearances with Huddersfield before joining his third West Yorkshire club during the winter.

The 30-year-old has pulled on the Trinity shirt on 11 occasions before this latest crucial fixture against Catalans who are rivals for the all-important top eight.
