Wakefield’s recent signing Scott Moore is out for the season following a freak training ground collision with a team-mate.

The former St Helens hooker sustained a ruptured bicep in training on the eve of last Saturday’s Super 8s Qualifiers clash with Bradford at Belle Vue and will undergo surgery.

Moore played just two games for the Wildcats after joining them on loan for the rest of the season from Castleford and is now facing a three-month lay-off.

“Someone bumped into him with the elbow and it ruptured his bicep,” Wakefield coach Brian Smith said. “He will be out for three months or so with that.”

Moore, who is due to return to Castleford at the end of the year, is the fifth Wakefield player to suffer a season-ending injury.

They include former Castleford winger Richard Owen, who suffered a double leg fracture in the 48-18 win over the Bulls and is due to undergo surgery on Friday.

It is the second similar injury for Owen but Smith is confident he will make another full recovery.

“It’s with the same surgeon and he’s very confident in that man,” Smith said. “The support for him has been overwhelming and I’ve a feeling he’s got a great chance of coming back and doing it all over again.”

Chris Riley and Jordan Tansey will by vying for Owen’s wing spot while second rower Ali Lauitiiti is set to return from a three-match absence for Saturday’s crucial trip to Leigh.
