Owen, 25, is a vastly experienced Super League player with an impressive strike record, having scored 66 tries in 142 games at the top level and has twice bravely fought his way back to fitness after career threatening injuries in both 2010 and 2015.

Formerly with community clubs Westgate Redoubt and Featherstone Lions he joined Castleford Tigers as a 16-year-old and burst onto the Super League scene in 2008, scoring 13 tries in 24 games.

He signed for Wakefield ahead of the 2014 Magic Weekend and last season scored five tries in 20 games for the Wildcats.

Leigh Centurions head coach Neil Jukes said: “Richard has a great pedigree and comes highly recommended. I’ve spoken to a number of players who played alongside him and they were all fulsome in their praise.

“Richard has shown great character to fight back from adversity in his career and still has many good years ahead of him in the game. Having the right attitude to succeed is crucial to any player and the indications are that Richard will relish his opportunity with Leigh Centurions and will prove to be a major asset to us at a crucial time in our season.

Centurions owner Derek Beaumont said: “I would like to thank Michael Carter, Brian Smith and Ron Hill for assisting with this. It is a move that benefits all parties as Richie looks to get back into the first team and we get a quality athlete at a time when we are down on numbers.

“When Richie returns he will be better for it and we will have bodies back at the same time. I am sure Neil and the boys will welcome the extra numbers in training this week.”
