Walker extends stay as Bulls agree Whitehead fee

Bradford’s former England international Chev Walker has signed a new 12-month contract with the Bulls, with an option for a further year.

The 30-year-old ex-Leeds and Hull KR centre or back-row forward has appeared in 17 of the club’s 20 games so far this season and is delighted to extend his career under Bradford coach Francis Cummins.

“Franny has shown faith in me and I’m more than willing to extend my time here,” said Walker. “I feel at home at Bradford and am really enjoying my rugby.”

Cummins said: “Chev is an outstanding professional and his experience is immense. He’s in the twilight of his career but he lives his life really well with his diet and general lifestyle.

“He’s passing that on to his team-mates because he’s not prepared to let other people make mistakes, which is a huge thing.

“During pre-season, he just missed out on his personal best for a 40-metre sprint, which he got when he was flying as a young kid.

“He’s done really well and is evolving into a middle man whilst trying to learn his trade again.”

Salford have agreed a transfer fee with Bradford for unsettled second-row forward Elliott Whitehead.

The 23-year-old has been in limbo since shocking the Bulls earlier this month by asking for a move, with Cummins refusing to select him.

Salford owner Marwan Koukash says he has agreed a “substantial” fee with Bradford for the highly-rated Whitehead and is hoping to finalise a move in time for Friday’s home game against St Helens.

“That would be nice,” said
Koukash “We’ve agreed a deal with the club and now it’s up to the player.

“We are talking to him now to see if we can agree personal terms. He’s a quality player.”

The Bulls were thought to be asking for at least £100,000 for Whitehead, who is under contract with them until the end of 2016.

Leeds centre Joel Moon will lose his ever-present record with the Super League champions after accepting a one-match ban.

The former Salford player, who has appeared in all 20 matches for his new club this year, was charged by the Rugby Football League’s match-review panel with a dangerous tackle in Monday night’s 38-28 win over Widnes.

Moon submitted an early-guilty plea to the grade B offence and will miss Sunday’s visit to second-placed Huddersfield.

Leeds were without eight regulars through injury for Monday’s rearranged match but will have prop Kylie Leuluai back to face the Giants and centre Carl Ablett will have X-rays tomorrow to determine whether he can return from a broken hand.
