WATCH - Chris Chester's pride despite Wakefield Trinity slipping to loss

They fell 11-6 to derby rivals Castleford Tigers in atrocious conditions on Thursday night but played their part in a hard-fought contest.

With a little extra composure, Wakefield could have claimed victory against last year’s League Leaders Shield winner although annoyed Chester also had issues with referee James Child.

“I’m proud of the boys,” he said.

“I thought in the second half we showed some real grit and determination.

“I thought we were the better team. We dropped the ball over the line twice and I don’t think we got the rub of the green.

“There was a coupe of calls there. David Fifita is over the line and a 20m restart is given when it’s a blatant strip for me.

“And then there was the penalty under the posts which was a cr*p call that he got wrong.

“But I’ll speak to (referees boss) Steve Ganson about that. That’s two weeks in a row with James Child; we just don’t seem to be getting the 50/50s with him.

“I don’t normally rant and rave but fair play to Cas, I thought they were very good first half with that wind behind us.

“It was a real tough game and real good team performance. We’re disappointed we lost but it’s fine margins and we just fell short again.

“We’ve just got to be a bit more clinical with the ball but we’re not far away. “

Wakefield prop David Fifita made a surprise appearance off the bench despite being ruled out with a groin injury.

“Ryan Hampshire went down with a sickness bug and Dave put his hand up,” Chester said.

“There’s no mind games and I thought he had a good game considering he’s not trained for two weeks.”

Wakefield head to Hull FC on Easter Monday with Chester saying he will make a number of changes to his squad.
