WATCH: How Leeds Rhinos boss has so many options at his disposal

Although many clubs are suffering injury woe and battles with Covid-related issues, Leeds Rhinos head coach Richard Agar admits he could soon be in a position to field TWO sides.

It is welcome news and should aid their preparations considerably for a Coral Challenge Cup semi-final on Saturday week especially given they face two Super League games before then.

Rhinos are in action against Hull KR at Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow before hosting Catalans Dragons next Wednesday.

Friday is the deadline for making any new signings for the rest of 2020 but Agar said they have already agreed to keep Featherstone Rovers duo Brett Ferres and Jack Harrison on a week-to-week basis and they have a number of players such as Jack Walker and Cameron Smith nearing fitness.

“We’re not looking externally as we’ve players coming back that gives us a fit and healthy squad,” he said, with Australian prop Adam Cuthbertson back in contention tomorrow.

“We’ve got close to two different 17s if we need (for the semi) without backing more than two or three up and we think it’s going to be vital.

“Any failure on any head test against Catalans automatically rules someone out of that semi-final.

“It’s very exciting having the chance to get to Wembley.

“We’ve got a couple of games to negotiate first; we’re in the top-four and want to stay there.

“It’s important we get our performance right (against Hull KR) to get there in the right frame of mind and we have a number of individuals coming back so there are a number of spots to be played for, too.”

Agar hopes all four Rhinos players who have been stood down for Covid reasons - Brad Dwyer is the only player to contract it - will be in contention for Catalans.

“Brad is our main concern as he contracted Covid and had some really tough days,” he said.

“He's had the virus and we need to see how he comes back.

“But it’s really frustrating for Konny (Hurrell) and Bodene (Thompson) as as yet they’ve shown no symptoms.

“I don’t think many have after being stood down for track and trace.”

Youngster Corey Hall is the other player stood down.

Meanwhile, loose forward Cameron Smith will have a scan on his broken jaw tomorrow afternoon and hopes to face Catalans.

“If that's already healed and mended he’ll be available to play in a game next week,” added Agar.

“He's been training with us. He’s not doing contact but he feels fine and has got his weight up a bit so fingers crossed."

He said he feels England Knights full-back Jack Walker will be "touch and go" to be ready for Catalans and, given the time he has spent out, is unlikely to be risked for the semi-final.
