Weaving a tale...

Cluny Chapman will be taking questions about everything to do with Shetland sheep, from running them to turning their wool into hats and wall-hangings, at her home in East Yorkshire this weekend.

Mrs Chapman, 37, is one of about 70 artists in Hull and East Yorkshire taking part in a series of scattered exhibitions organised by regional arts agency Big Skies, under the title Reveal 2010. But she is the only one who also qualifies as a farmer.

She did some work with sheep while growing up in Buckinghamshire and started rearing her own four years ago, on rented land near the home at Seaton Ross, near Holme on Spalding Moor, which she moved into 10 years ago with husband Richard.

In preparation for children, now aged five and two, she ran down her commitments as an archaeologist attached to York University in favour of working at home with skills passed down through at least five generations of her family.

Her business, Highfield Textiles, sells through farmers' markets in York and Leeds, some fairs and shows, and www.highfieldtextiles.co.uk/

Meet her at Highfield House, Mains Lane, Seaton Ross, YO42 4LY, 9-5, today and tomorrow. For other studios taking part see www.reveal-art.org.uk/
