'˜We're partly to blame' admits Huddersfield Giants' Leroy Cudjoe after sacking of coach Paul Anderson

Anderson was relieved of duties yesterday with his side joint-bottom of Super League after just four wins from 18 games this term.

England international Cudjoe told The Yorkshire Post: “I was shocked when I found out, but I understand it’s a results-driven business.

“And us, as players, have to take some responsibility too, because at the end of the day it’s us that go out there and play.

“He’s been here a long time and achieved a lot. But the decision’s been made and we move forward with Andy Kelly and his team for the short-term.”

Hoping to avoid a fourth successive loss, it is hard to understand just what has gone so wrong for a side that came within 80 minutes of Old Trafford last term.

Sunday’s dour 10-2 home loss to Wakefield Trinity was the final straw for the Giants hierarchy and Cudjoe conceded: “It was very frustrating and disappointing.

“We just couldn’t keep hold of the ball and in those (rainy) conditions completion rate is massive.

“Our attack has struggled all year and a massive part of that is down to us not completing high enough.

“Individually we all need to be honest with ourselves and have a good look at how we are preparing for games because this year so far hasn’t been anywhere near good enough.

“I believe we can win at Salford but in order to do that we’ve got to all turn up, be on the same page, know our roles, be consistent and keep turning up for each other.”

Ian Watson’s side lost 8-0 at Leeds a week ago and are 10th, just two points above Huddersfield but, of course, have seen six points deducted for salary cap breaches.

Cudjoe, who attended England coach Wayne Bennett’s first squad meeting on Monday, said: “They are a dangerous side when you give them lots of ball and good field position.

“If we play anything like we did on Sunday it’s going to be a long day. But I’m confident in the players we’ve got to go there and put a good performance together.”
