Whitehaven 28 Keighley Cougars 18: Cougars fail to hold on to lead after White try as Whitehaven battle back for victory

Brett Seymour provided the inspiration as Whitehaven dealt Keighley a setback in their quest to avoid relegation from the Kingstone Press Championship.

The ex-Hull FC playmaker orchestrated a try for Shaun Ainscough three minutes from time to confirm the Cumbrians’ victory but Paul March’s side at least claimed a bonus point.

Paul White finished clinically with 14 minutes remaining. That was converted by Danny Jones to edge Keighley 18-16 in front but late scores from Carl Foster and former Bradford winger Ainscough put Whitehaven home and dry.

Keighley captain James Feather opened the scoring with a well-taken effort which Danny Jones converted.

But Whitehaven hit back when centre Chris Taylor and Jessie Joe Parker crossed.

Danny Lawton and White saw Keighley twice take the lead, but Scott McAvoy crossed, before Foster went over from a scrum and Ainscough finished well to seal the Whitehaven win.
