The Halifax-born loose forward has received a four-match suspension after pleading guilty to a Grade D charge of Dangerous Contact with James Clare during Saturday’s Betfred Super League fixture.

The operational rules tribunal also fined Smithies £500 for the “crusher” tackle that saw the Castleford winger stretchered off and required hospital treatment.

However, the 19-year-old had already also been issued with a two-match penalty notice by the RFL’s Match Review Panel for head butting Tigers' Grant Millington in the same game.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield Giants’ Suaia Matagi and Hull FC’s Joe Cator chose to accept their respective two and one-match penalty notices.
