Wildcats loan Wolves’ McCarthy

Wakefield Wildcats have signed back row forward Tyrone McCarthy on a month’s loan from Warrington.

The 22-year-old Irish student international has been recalled from Championship club Leigh, where he has been playing on a dual registration, and is set to make his Wildcats debut at Huddersfield on Sunday.

McCarthy was a member of Warrington’s Challenge Cup-winning team at Wembley in August 2009 but has made only six senior appearances since.

His only Super League appearance so far this year was in the Wolves’ 22-6 win at Wakefield earlier this month.

Wakefield coach John Kear said: “Tyrone will add great competition for the back-row spots. He has been very well schooled at Warrington and he has big-game experience.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him and seeing him in the red, white and blue. I thank (Warrington coach) Tony Smith for his continued assistance.”

McCarthy is the second Warrington player to join Wakefield on loan this season but his predecessor Craig Harvey did not play for the Wildcats and has since retired.
