Wildcats ready to go all the way believes coach Kear

CHALLENGE Cup veteran John Kear believes his unfancied Wakefield Trinity Wildcats side could defy the odds and reach Wembley this season.

They may have been hamstrung in their play-offs bid by a four-point deduction but the man who led both Sheffield Eagles and Hull FC to success in the famous knockout competition, reckons they are ideally suited for a run in the cup.

“It’s just four games and then you’re at Wembley,” said Kear, who was also assistant when Castleford lifted the trophy in 1986 and takes his side to Championship One club Doncaster tomorrow for a place in the fifth round.

“I certainly believe that once you’ve got through the first two games and you’re in the quarter-finals, then it’s just like being in the Super League play-offs.

“Sunday is a great chance for us to roll our sleeves up, go out and make our way to the quarters.

“I’m strongly sensing everyone really fancies a dig at this competition. I certainly do.”

Hull FC coach Richard Agar has called up youngster Jack Aldous, could hand debuts to Liam Kent and Ben Crooks – son of Airlie Birds legend Lee – and rests veteran Australian forwards Craig Fitzgibbon and Mark O’Meley for their lunchtime visit of Championship One Oldham.
