Workington 22 Keighley 24: Fightback rewarded as Keighley triumph

AS comebacks go it was pretty impressive, with Keighley Cougars picking themselves off the floor to snatch a late win at Derwent Park.

Town were 22-4 ahead eight minutes into the second-half and Keighley looked beaten.

But in a 15-minute spell Keighley scored four tries and the last one, seven minutes from time, was converted to edge them in front when it mattered.

Keighley had also scored the opening try but for much of the time in between they trailed to an improving Workington side.

Danny Jones had given them field position with a 40-20 before Sean Hesketh used his strength to drag three defenders over the line for an unconverted try.

Then the Cougars were rocked by Town scoring three tries in 10 minutes from Andy Morris, Jason Mossop and Callum Phillips (two converted by Kayle Connor) to trail 16-4 at the break.

When Town increased their lead eight minutes into the second-half, with a Jordan James try, they looked set for a comfortable victory.

But Keighley responded well and some smart handling ended with full-back James Craven getting over for an unconverted try before a clever stabbed kick from Jones saw Josh Lynam touch down under the posts. Jones converted.

Another clever kick from Jones was touched down by Elliot Cosgrove before Lynam scored his second try. Paul Handforth converted for the winning points.
