York 12 Oldham 31: Knights lose unbeaten record to Oldham

York City Knights suffered a surprise play-off defeat to Oldham as their 10-game unbeaten run was shattered.

The visitors ran in four unanswered first-half tries.

A kick from Gareth Owen, on loan from Salford, created the first try for Liam Thompson, Steve Roper claiming the first of his six successful kicks.

Oldham strengthened their grip with Lewis Palfrey’s bomb lost in the air by Ben Dent and David Cookson swooping to score, before full-back Steve Nield crossed the line after supporting Danny Langtree’s superb break.

Kriss Brining’s pass across the Roughyeds line was picked-off for Danny Langtree to sprint 80-metres for a 24-0 interval lead.

York showed more conviction after the break as James Saltonstall touched down Bloomfield’s poor clearance attempt from Pat Smith’s kick and Lee Paterson was on hand as Adam Clay failed to defuse Ben Reynold’s bomb.

But with Roper adding a drop-goal Oldham maintained their superiority as George Tyson collected winger Ben Dent’s knock-on to score.
