York City Knights 13 Leigh Centurions 12: Thorman stays calm

Chris Thorman's goal only cleared the crossbar by inches, but it was enough to give York City Knights a last-gasp victory.

Mick Nanyn struck a quick penalty goal Leigh early on before York's Mike Mitchell strode in for the opening try against the run of play, converted by Lee Waterman.

Thorman's kick then saw Danny Wilson palm backwards for Mitchell to cross the line again, with Waterman again converting.

After the break, an aggressive break by Leigh hooker John Duffy finally punched a hole in the York defence for Dave Alstead to touch down.

Dave McConnell then scored under the posts and Nanyn's conversion levelled the scores.

But with two minutes remaining Thorman's calm authority proved decisive with the goal ensuring victory by the narrowest of margins.
