York City Knights 72 Gateshead Thunder 14: Knights bounce back with 12-try demolition

York bounced back from last weekend's shock defeat at Doncaster with a resounding 12-try romp despite a spirited performance from Gateshead.

The Knights took an early lead following a Jonathan Schofield interception try but Gateshead hit back immediately. Will Bate's break saw Matt Barron cross the line and minutes later Bate burrowed his way through the defence to score after good work from stand-off Liam Duffy.

But this inspired York to move up a gear. Joe McLocklan reached out to touch down before Danny Ratcliffe scored the first of his hat-trick.

Steve Hill scored a try following McLocklan's dummy and after Ryan Clarke was sin-binned as the hooter sounded Lee Waterman ran the penalty deep into Thunder's half for Schofield to add his second try.

Dennis Tuffour scored a typical winger's try with a 50-metre run before Schofield completed his hat-trick.

With York in total control Richard Blakeway, Ratcliffe and Tom Lineham crossed the line.

Tabua Cakacaka and Hill were sin-binned and York prop Jon Fallon saw red for using his elbows during the ensuing brawl but Kris Peacock and Ratcliffe added further York tries. Thunder had the last word with a Michael Brown try.
