York City Knights 8 Crusaders 58: Crusaders' class proves too much for Knights

Super League side Crusaders proved to be too powerful, agile and quick as they ran in 10 tries against York and set-up a fifth round meeting with Catalan Dragons.

With only two minutes played the writing was on the wall for York as a simple line movement involving Peter Lupton and Clint Schifcofske saw Rhys Hanbury score, but to their credit the Knights hit back with Joe McLocklan's kick being touched down by Jonathan Schofield.

But this setback only appeared to stimulate the Crusaders as they ran in four further tries before half-time. Nick Youngquest gathered a high bomb to score and Jamie Thackray produced a powerful drive to touch down by the posts.

Jason Chann forced his way through a stubborn defence and score before Hanbury added his second.

Five tries in a 23-minute spell that embodied all the basic elements of rugby league took the Crusaders further away from the Knights. Substitute Lloyd White touched down twice and a pacy run from Gareth Thomas saw Michael Witt offload at the crucial moment for Ben Flower to score.

Chann added his second try after former Welsh Rugby Union winger Gareth Thomas intercepted on his own line to stretch his legs over the length of the field and touch down under the posts.

York winger DennisTuffour perhaps deservedly had the final word with a consolation try four minutes from the final hooter.
