Your chance to win tickets for Magic Weekend in Manchester

The Magic Weekend reaches new ground in a fortnight’s time when the Stobart Super League bonanza moves on to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

All 14 top-flight clubs are in action over two intensive days at the Premier League venue meaning supporters can see all of the cream of the competition’s talent during the annual festival.

After trips to Cardiff and Edinburgh, the sixth Magic Weekend heads for Manchester and the Rugby Football League has teamed up with the Yorkshire Post to offer readers the chance to win five pairs of tickets.

West Yorkshire arch-rivals Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats begin the event on Saturday, May 26 (1pm) with Warrington Wolves facing Widnes Vikings (4pm) before the first day is rounded off with the eagerly-anticipated derby between high-flying Hull FC and Hull KR.

Title-chasing Catalan Dragons start proceedings on Sunday against London Broncos (12 noon) before joint-Super League leaders Huddersfield Giants take on Salford City Reds (2pm).

Champions Leeds Rhinos face Bradford Bulls in their customary Magic Weekend fixture (4pm) and then another of the sport’s great rivalries – St Helens and Wigan Warriors (6pm) – is the rousing finale to the event as they swiftly repeat today’s Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final tie.

The weekend traditionally conjures up some classic encounters and controversial moments – who will forget Jordan Tansey’s infamous last-ditch try that saw Leeds snatch victory over fuming Bradford Bulls at Cardiff in 2007, or Paul Cooke’s crucial role for victorious Hull KR in the 200th derby just a fortnight after leaving Hull FC?

What about Jarrod Sammut’s dazzling try for Crusaders – barely 48 hours after getting off a plane from Australia – that stunned Bradford two years later or Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown’s outrage after Luke Robinson was flattened by Wigan captain Sean O’Loughlin in a brutally fought encounter?

Wigan were also at the centre of a thrilling 16-16 draw against Saints when the Magic Weekend was switched from May to the start of the season last year, winless Bradford again suffering heartache as they were defeated late on by Leeds once more courtesy of hat-trick man Ben Jones-Bishop’s rare penalty try.

Day tickets for Magic Weekend tickets cost from just £30 adult and £15 concession.
