The encounter between two of the division’s in-form sides got off to a slow start, but the final seven minutes of the first period provided a flurry of action.

George Thomson threatened for the visitors before play switched to the other end where Warren Burrell and then Kelvin Langmead were forced to make crucial blocks in and around their own six-yard box.

Dominic Knowles then had the clearest opportunity of the half, two minutes before the interval, but goalkeeper Jay Lynch raced from his line to make a fine save.

The second period saw Harrogate’s goalkeeper James Belshaw produce two fabulous stops to deny James Hardy and Danny Rowe either side of Town’s Joe Leesley nodding wide when he ought to have done better and Langmead seeing a header tipped on to the bar.

It was Town who finished the contest strongest, but the ball just wouldn’t quite drop for them and the game ended in stalemate.
