Ferguson joined Guiseley in June 2017, but the opportunity to set up his own company has prevented him from being able to dedicate the amount of time that he feels the role requires.

A club statement read: “Guiseley AFC wishes James all the best in his future venture. The new chairman will be announced in due course.”

News of Ferguson’s departure came shortly before the Lions’ National League fixture at home to Dagenham and Redbridge was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

A pitch inspection was held at Nethermoor at midday but areas were deemed not fit to play on following heavy overnight rain.

The game will now be played on Thursday, April 19 (7.45pm) adding to an already busy week for Sean St Ledger’s side.

The rearranged fixture comes between two other home games against Barrow, on April 17, and Woking, on April 21.

Ben Tomlinson struck and 89th-minute winner as FC Halifax Town defeated Sutton United at the Shay.

Mike Fondop-Talom gave the Shaymen an 18th-minute lead against their promotion-chasing visitors, who looked to have earned a point when Ross Lafayette equalised with eight minutes to go.

But Tomlinson had the final word to lift Town up to 14th in the table.

York City lost 1-0 at Nuneaton Town in National North.
