Jones, 31, left the Stadium of the Light earlier in the close season after four years at the club after previously spending three years at West Brom, having joined the Baggies from Preston in 2011 after 160 appearances.

The arrival of Jones will provide some defensive versatility and further experience to the Millers back-line, with the club having already brought in loanee Zac Vyner, centre-half Clark Robertson and forward Kyle Vassell.

Sheffield United are likely to resist any Brighton overtures to sign Jack O’Connell, despite spending a club record fee on Brentford captain John Egan.

O’Connell, linked with a £6m move to the Seagulls, is attracting strong interest from the south coast club, who are also keen on Reading’s Liam Moore.

Albion boss Chris Hughton is keen to add a fourth centre-back to compete with Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk and Leon Balogun.

But the Blades are keen on partnering O’Connell with new man Egan and not allowing him to leave.

Huddersfield Town are close to completing the signing of Monaco striker Adama Diakhaby, according to some reports in France.

The 22-year-old, who made 30 appearances for Monaco in Ligue 1 last season, has impressed many potential suitors and a big-money move has been mooted.

And, according to L’Equipe, a deal worth in the region of £8m for Diakhaby which would see the forward move to Town is in the offing.

Diakhaby will link up with former Monaco team-mate Terence Kongolo at the John Smith’s Stadium once the deal has gone through.

The future of unsettled Hull City winger Kamil Grosicki, due to report back for pre-season training on Monday, is likely to be resolved in the coming weeks.

Grosicki was granted an additional three weeks of holiday after being part of Poland’s World Cup squad, ensuring he missed the opening month of the Tigers’ pre-season programme.

The 30-year-old - the club’s current highest earner - is intent on leaving Hull ahead of the transfer deadline on August 9, although the Tigers are keen to recoup a fair chunk of the £7m fee which took him to East Yorkshire.
