National League: Cox planning for Guiseley to stay focused | FC Halifax deal with injury woes

While the glamour FA Cup second round tie against Mansfield Town will understandably be memorable for Guiseley when it comes around next weekend, manager Paul Cox insists none of his players are getting too distracted.

The Lions saw their midweek game at AFC Fylde fall victim to the elements, allowing relegation rivals Barrow and Torquay to claim wins that saw Cox’s side slide down to third-bottom.

And Cox, whose side welcome Sutton today, said: “I don’t think it is just the cup game now. We want to take the club to another phase.

“I’ve had really positive talks with the chairman about the next stage of our development and building the club. I have only been here for 10 weeks and the change has been frightening. Now, it’s about the players building a culture and developing their game management.

“Even though some of the results went against us on Tuesday, it still opens it up for us to go up three, four or five places.”

FC Halifax Town’s resources will again be stretched as the club looks to halt an alarming slide down the table.

The Shaymen host Eastleigh looking to end a nine-game winless streak. Injuries have decimated Halifax’s squad in recent weeks with the likes of key men such as Matty Kosylo missing. Scott Garner joins the lengthy list of absentees today after picking up a fifth booking of the season in the midweek defeat at Hartlepool United.

“We are patching people up and putting them out there,” said manager Billy Heath. “I can’t say the effort is not there.”
