National Three North: Packard pounces for leaders and Sheffield make Cleckheaton pay

After Max Allen got Tigers off the mark, there was no looking back with the visitors scoring eight tries in total.

Outside centre Jamie Broadley followed up Allen’s effort and he went on to score two tries, as did inside centre Tom Outram. But it was Packard who stole the show, scoring three tries. Tigers No 10 Mark Ireland kicked the rest of the points.

A stoppage-time converted penalty try gave Sheffield a 20-19 victory at Cleckheaton.

The visitors scored all their points when Cleckheaton were a man down – they had three players sin-binned.

Lee Queeley crossed first in the corner and Ronan Evans converted. Jonny France replied with a penalty but Jack Bickerdike then seized on a mistake at the back of a Sheffield scrum, scooped up the loose ball and sprinted over for an unconverted try. After a melee, Richard Piper was sin-binned as Cleckheaton led 12-3 at the break.

Cleckheaton prop Paul Turner was binned on 55 minutes and France kicked the penalty before converting after winger Joe McHale squeezed in.

Ryan Piercy muscled over for a converted try but when Austin was carded for not releasing, Sheffield pressed and the referee lost patience with Cleckheaton and awarded the penalty try.

Huddersfield YMCA had to come from behind to earn a 15-15 draw at home to Lymm, despite leading for long periods.

For much of the first half, Huddersfield produced a controlled display. An early penalty was followed by a try out wide from winger Lloyd Bentley.

Lymm struck a penalty and then took the lead with a converted try. A further score put the visitors 15-8 ahead until centre Adam Ryder crossed and Simon Wilson converted in the blustery conditions.

Ilkley went down to their first defeat in four games, 10-5 in difficult conditions at Wirral.

The visitors made the best possible start with a try following some good phases but the hosts were able to steal ahead with a penalty and a well-taken try.

The second half was disappointing and not a point was scored despite over 10 minutes of stoppage time being played.

Hull were undone by a stoppage-time penalty in a 20-19 defeat at Rossendale.

The visitors dominated the second half but were made to pay for two costly errors at the kick-off which gifted scores to Rossendale.

A try from winger Jamie Kirk and a flurry of successful kicks from fly-half Josh Bragman looked to have sealed victory for Hull, before a last-minute kick from Steven Nutt condemned them to defeat.
