Newcomers will be given detailed rundown of Huddersfield Town's style

The Terriers will spend a week in the Tyrol region during a trip that will include friendlies against Serie A side Bologna and RB Leipzig of the Bundesliga.

With the Premier League opener against Chelsea just a fortnight away the clock is ticking on the club’s preparations and Wagner wants the five new faces to be fully up to speed by the time the squad returns to England.

He said: “First and foremost, it is now important we work with all the players who only have Chelsea in their head. They are very important. It is important we give our new signings more detail about what we do.

“We will not have a problem with the togetherness and the spirit of the group. This was and will be top class. That is what this group is all about, we still have some very strong individuals.

“But for the new players to understand the ideas of our football in the offence and defence in detail, this week will help. As will these two games.”

Erik Durm, a full-back who was a member of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup, is the only new face yet to feature in pre-season.

However, the signing from Borussia Dortmund is expected to play in at least one of the two fixtures in Austria.

“He will be in full training on the trip,” added Wagner about someone who did not play at all last term with Dortmund due to a succession of injuries.

“Maybe not in every single session as we still have to be very careful.

“We knew this when we signed him. He can train 100 per cent, just maybe not every session.”

Juninho Bacuna, a £2m arrival from Dutch club Groningen, has also travelled after being out of action since twisting his knee during Town’s first friendly against Bury on July 10. Adama Diakhaby, who cost £8m from Monaco, is fit despite limping out of Wednesday’s win over Lyon.

Danish international duo Jonas Lossl and Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen, Town’s only ever-presents in the league last term, will get their first action of pre-season after being given an extended holiday following the World Cup.

“The new players need these matches to fit into the group and get used to our ideas,” added Wagner. “What was different against Lyon is that we showed more passion and more desire to try and get the result. We showed our fighting spirit, even when down. We were not at our best in the first few weeks and now we need to take more steps.

“We do not need to be at our very best because we do not play Chelsea tomorrow. But we have to keep making steps.”

Joel Coleman has joined League One Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper agreed a contract extension at the John Smith’s Stadium to 2020 before heading to the New Meadow. Town can extend that by a further 12 months.
