Transfer Gossip (Friday): Leeds United target staying put | Blades issue '˜hands off' warning | Boro eye winger

LEEDS UNITED'S hopes of a summer loan swoop for talented young Liverpool winger Harry Wilson have suffered a blow with the news that the Wales international is likely to remain at Anfield as a back-up option next season.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri, but they are reportedly ready to offer Wilson, 21, who made an outstanding impact in the second half of last season during a loan stint at Hull City, an opportunity to impress.

Wilson has long been highly rated on Merseyside, having starred as a captain of the under-23s, but has struggled to break into the senior set-up and has made just one senior appearance. But his form at Hull is likely to hand him a platform to impress in pre-season.

Another Liverpool winger in the shape of ex-Barnsley loanee Ryan Kent is another option for Leeds, although Glasgow Rangers - managed by ex-Anfield legend Steven Gerrard - are also firmly in the bidding to sign him.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to seek an agreement as part of the deal where the club that signs Kent faces a financial penalty if he does not manage to start a certain number of games.

Bristol City had to reportedly pay the Premier League giants £500,000 following a loan spell this past season where Kent made just six league starts.

Sheffield United have reiterated their intent to keep hold of star talent David Brooks, who is being monitored by several top-flight clubs.

Middlesbrough are reportedly plotting a move to sign West Bromwich Albion winger Matty Phillips, with former Riverside favourite Albert Adomah - one of number of players whose future is up in the air at cash-strapped Aston Villa - being another alternative target.

Former Rotherham United record buy Jonson Clarke-Harris is in discussions over a permanent move to Coventry.

Clarke-Harris is a free agent following his official release from the Millers last week, having spent the second half of last season on loan at the Sky Blues.
