The 20-year-old Wales international has signed a four-year deal and he told the Cherries’ website: “The chance to come and play for a club in the Premier League is a great opportunity for myself. I’m delighted to be on board.

“When you look at Eddie Howe as a manager you want to be involved in something like that. He’s got big ambitions and with younger players he develops them well and he gives them a chance.

“That’s something I’m looking for and he was one of the main attractions for me to come to Bournemouth.”

Brooks represented England at Under-20 level but switched allegiances to Wales and has been capped three times.

Bournemouth chief Howe said: “David is a player we have been looking at for a long time.

“He is technically very good, has huge potential and will fit our philosophy in terms of how we want to play.

“We’ve seen enough to suggest he is a player who could be outstanding at this level in the future if he develops in the right way and is willing to learn and improve.”

Sheffield United released a statement which confirmed they had received a “club-record fee” for the youngster, and added: “United moved last season to reward Brooks with a new long-term deal and had no intentions to sell.

“However, following changes to his representation, interest from the Premier League proved a key driver in the player wanting to make the move, with the Blades forced to negotiate the best possible transfer fee, plus additional clauses, including a sell-on percentage.”

Former Blades loanee Jamal Blackman could have moved ahead of Leeds United fan David Stockdale and Manchester City’s Angus Gunn as the Elland Road club’s No 1 goalkeeping target.

The Chelsea 23-year-old kept nine clean sheets and conceded just 34 goals in 31 league appearances for the Blades in the Championship last season.

Blackman spent the 2016-17 season at Wycombe in League Two and he has also been on loan at Middlesbrough.

Stockdale, 32, has been released by Birmingham City while Gunn was wanted by Leeds on loan from City.

Leeds are also continuing their search for striking power and could make another move for Carpi’s Jerry Mbakogu, who would cost around £1.6m.

Nigeria-born Mbakogu scored just six goals in 26 Serie B appearances last season.

Leeds are also linked with Uruguayan Abel Hernandez, whose contract at Hull City has ended but who is wanted by Turkish club Bursapor, and Derby County’s Czech striker Matej Vydra.

Middlesbrough are also looking to strengthen their striking options and are considering a move for Ipswich Town forward Martyn Waghorn, 28, who scored 16 goals in 44 appearances last season.

Manchester City are unlikely to trigger a £20m buy-back clause for Australian midfield star Aaron Mooy, whom they sold to Huddersfield Town for £8m last season.

The Terriers, however, will have to fight off interest from West Ham, Everton and Southampton to keep the 27-year-old £18m-rated play-maker, who has shone at the World Cup.

Hull City remain interested in £1m-rated Motherwell’s French centre-back Cedric Kipre, 21, despite having had an initial bid rejected.

Having signed Blackpool duo defender Clark Robertson, 24, and striker Kyle Vassell, 25, on three-year deals, Rotherham United chief Paul Warne is hopeful of more new signings this week.

Sheffield Wednesday remain in talks with parent club Vitoria de Setubal over the return of central defender Frederico Venancio, who had a successful loan spell at Hillsborough last season.

Venancio, 25, is valued at £1.8m.

Scottish Premiership club Hibernian aim to land unsettled Barnsley midfielder Stevie Mallan.

The 22-year-old Glaswegian struggled for first-team opportunities at Oakwell after joining from St Mirren last summer.

He is seen by Hibs as the ideal replacement for out of contract Dylan McGeouch, a target of Sunderland.

Former Sheffield United and Bradford City striker James Hanson, 30, has completed a move to AFC Wimbledon after leaving Bramall Lane.

New Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has appointed former Scunthorpe United team-mate Cliff Byrne, who has been working at Sunderland, as his No 2.

Byrne, 36, and McCann helped The Iron to promotion from League One in 2008-09.

Byrne said: “I am excited to get going and the first impressions are really good, Grant made contact with me early on in the week and it moved pretty smoothly from there really.

“Myself and Grant have a close bond, we share the same outlook on the game in how we want to go about things and it is a fantastic opportunity for me to come and work here with him.

“The main focus is to work with the manager, the coaching staff and getting into the first-team group, and my aim is to improve everybody individually and collectively.”

“I have been working with Sunderland Under-23s, we had close links with the first-team, so you had a real feel for what they needed and a lot of the younger players really developed,” he added.

“That experience will help me in this job as we have a young squad here, so I am looking forward to getting in and improving on the good work that the club has already done at youth level.

“There is a lot of togetherness in this side which is important, the club is a well run club. They have a vocal and loyal support, and us as a staff want to deliver.”
