Sam signs for home-town Leeds and targets place in the play-offs

LEEDS UNITED jetted to Slovakia last night for a pre-season tour with a sixth signing of the summer on board after Charlton Athletic wideman Lloyd Sam agreed a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old turned down several offers after his contract at The Valley ran out last week to join his home-town club.

Sam, who made 43 league appearances for Charlton last season, said: "I was looking at a few Championship options and started talking with Leeds.

"I hope we can be in and around the play-offs. I am looking forward to getting to know the lads."

Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: "Lloyd is another good addition to our squad. He has plenty of experience, he has played at Championship level, and is hungry and keen to do well.

"We're delighted to get things finalised and welcome him aboard before we go out to Slovakia."

Sam made 134 appearances for Charlton after working his way through the ranks at The Valley.

The Whites have a further 12-month option on the player, who was born in Leeds where his father went to university before moving to London.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins hopes to appoint a new manager by Monday. The Swans are on the lookout for a new chief after Paulo Sousa left to join Leicester.

sSheffield United's Gary Speed and Doncaster Rovers' Sean O'Driscoll have been linked with the role along with John Hartson and Chris Coleman. But Jenkins also has his eye on the lower leagues as he searches for the right man.

Tranmere have appointed Kevin Summerfield as the club's assistant manager.

The 51-year-old will work alongside boss Les Parry in preparation for the forthcoming League One season.

Peterborough have completed the signing of Arron Davies on a two-year contract following a successful trial.

The former Nottingham Forest forward, 26, has been training with the rest of the squad in Portugal.

Shrewsbury have completed the signing of defender David Raven, a 25-year-old centre-half, who was released by Carlisle at the end of last season.
