Samoan leads rallying call for Carnegie

Henry Fa’afili says it is time for Leeds Carnegie’s players to stand up and be counted.

The Samoan centre was on the end of a slick move through the backs on Friday night that gave Leeds an early lead against Sale Sharks.

Although the evening ultimately ended in disapppointment, it was a strong performance from Leeds that left Fa’afili demanding more.

“Not only myself, a lot of the key players need to step up, particularly the next couple of games against Exeter and Newcastle,” he said.

“Everybody wants to step up and do well and that’s how you judge the character of a player.

“It bodes well for us that I’m not the only one who realises that and, hopefully, we can do so in the remaining games.”

The 30-year-old former Biarritz back felt there were plenty of positives to take from the game, but despite dominating the first half he was frustrated by the team’s indiscipline.

“We gave away too may silly penalties,” said the fomer rugby league man. “We gave Charlie Hodgson too many chances and he’ll make you pay.

“There’s stuff we need to work on and we’ll address those on Monday. There were a lot of positives out there, we’re not beating ourselves up too much. Come Exeter next week, we’ve got to be ready for them.”
