Scims losing streak grows

SHEFFIELD SCIMITARS saw their losing streak extended to five games in the English Premier League with two defeats at the weekend.

Goals from James Archer and Peter Slamiar couldn't prevent Jon Rowbotham's side going down 3-2 at home to Bracknell Bees on Saturday before losing 4-2 at Peterborough Phantoms on Sunday.

Against Peterborough, Chris Sykes put Scimitars ahead at 17.30, but Peterborough struck back just before the buzzer with a powerplay goal at 19.46 by Tom Carlon.

Carlon struck his second goal at 31.36 but the lead did not last long as Scimitars fought back at 32.24 when Tom Squires squeezed the puck between the goalie and the post.

There was no slackening of pace in the third as both teams pressed for the go-ahead goal, but it was Peterborough who capitalised via Tom Carlon's hat-trick as he slammed home a rebound from in front of net with just five minutes left on the clock.

A Scimitars time-out at 57.31 and pulling the goalie only resulted in Peterborough ensuring their two points with an empty-net goal at 59.50.

At IceSheffield on Saturday, Bracknell scored first at 11.08 before James Archer one-timing his shot to equalise at the start of the second. This was nullified less than three minutes later as Bracknell claimed their 2nd goal at 24.35.

Bracknell went up 3-1 on the powerplay at 46.49 but Peter Slamiar was perfectly placed in front of net to hammer home the puck, although Scimitars couldn't find the equalising goal.
