Search for manager on hold at Hull as financial problems take priority

ADAM PEARSON says Hull City's search for a new manager remains on the back-burner due to the pressing need to sort out the club's financial problems.

The Tigers are facing an uncertain future following relegation from the Premier League amid debts of 35m.

Slipping out of the top flight will cost Hull tens of millions of

pounds and a restructuring process is underway.

Central to that is a proposal from the board for the players to accept a 30 per cent wage deferral for the summer and it is understood talks are continuing between Hull and the Professional Footballers' Association.

Neither party is willing to comment on the progress of those discussions, though it is believed the club's monthly wage bill was paid on time as scheduled yesterday.

The club's off-field problems mean the search for a manager is not a top priority right now, as Pearson, who under a boardroom reshuffle earlier this month relinquished the role of chairman to become head of football operations, admits.

He said: "The position is there will be no movement in terms of a manager in the immediate future.

"At the moment, it is on the back-burner due to other matters being the priority."

Hull's search is complicated by Phil Brown still, technically, being manager despite being placed on gardening leave in March.

He has 13 months remaining on a 1.4m per annum contract and agreement will have to be reached over a settlement before a new manager can be appointed.

Iain Dowie, who took charge of the team in the final two months of the season, is still hoping to get the nod but looks like having to be patient.

Tigers midfielder Dean Marney yesterday moved to Burnley in a deal

worth around 500,000.

The 26-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with Brian Laws's side.

Hull's Geovanni is understood to be interesting Greek club, AEK Athens.
