Sharpe in at double as leaders march on

Huddersfield extended their unbeaten run to 10 games with a 29-13 victory at Penrith – captain Nick Sharpe bagging a brace.

The visitors fought back from an 8-0 deficit with No 8 Sharpe scoring his tries before half-time and full-back Tom Hodson converting for a 14-8 interval lead.

Scrum-half Joel Hinchliffe and hooker James Davies added further tries to ensure the additional bonus points.

Morley did the leaders a favour with a 16-7 victory at promotion-chasing Sale.

The Maroons hit back to lead 10-7 at half-time through a penalty and conversion from captain Mark Chester and a try by scrum-half Shaun Dadswell.

Two further penalties from Chester ensured the win.

Sandal overcame dreadful conditions to secure a 36-5 victory at home to Billingham.

Prop Luke Norbury scored an early try before the scores were levelled. Sandal then dominated with second-row Austin Thompson adding the second try and full-back Ian Jackson landing a conversion and penalty.

Centre Mark Pease scored and Jackson converted for 22-5. Then scrum-half Max Whittingham secured the bonus point from a drive over at the scrum and Jackson completed the scoring.

Beverley had to settle for a losing bonus point as they lost 13-6 at Stockport.

Stockport’s two tries in the space of five minutes midway through the second half settled the issue in an even contest.

Beverley had controlled the first period but had nothing to show for their domination at half-time with the game scoreless.

A penalty by Stockport fly-half Josh Longmore two minutes into the second half brought the first score before winger Myles Hall and prop Andy Fuller touched down for tries.

A penalty by Tomasi Tanumi got Beverley back into it and he kicked a second five minutes from time to secure a losing bonus point.

Richard Scull kicked two second-half penalties for Bradford and Bingley, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 15-6 defeat at Rossendale for who Leyton Taylor and Tom Albinson scored tries.
