Sheffield derby: Sunday gives Blades chance to wipe out memory of last season

Winning this game won't make up for everything we wanted to achieve this season but it will go some way to appeasing the fans.

It would also be nice 'payback' for last season's results if we complete the double.

I have massive respect for Alan Irvine but I have my job to do at Sheffield United and you are under so much pressure as a manager that you can't worry about anyone else.

Neither do I want to think about whether Wednesday go down.

I just want to win the game for Sheffield United.

We are still going for promotion and results on Saturday could leave us in terrific shape.

If we lose, it ends our play-off hopes, but it is still a quality achievement to be where we are in the table.

There is pressure on both sides but I would rather have our pressure than theirs.

We agreed to extend Steve Simonsen and Paul Connolly's loans this week so they can play tomorrow. Going into a game like this, you need as many experienced players as you can get.

We have been patching up our back four all season – because of injuries – so it is nice to have some stability.

Maybe six or seven of my lads have never played in a Steel City derby. Only Henderson, Morgan, Quinn, and Montgomery played in the first game.

Maybe that might be an advantage. I don't know?

We have to make sure our new players are aware of what this means.

It is a massive game. You can't over-hype it.

If you win, you can go out for dinner or park your car in the car park without worrying about comments.

It changes lives. That is how big it is.

The bragging and the gloating between the two sets of fans goes on for quite a while.

Of course, when a player goes back to one of his old clubs it

inevitably means a little bit more.

Richard Cresswell is enjoying his time here and is a Sheffield United player through and through.

He has made it quite clear that he doesn't want to be known as an (ex) Sheffield Wednesday player but a Sheffield United player from now on.

He will probably get a 'reminder' about that from the Wednesday fans but that is what derby games are all about.

I wouldn't expect anything less!
