Sheffield find bite to see off Luctonians

Sheffield Tigers 24 Luctonians 19Sheffield Tigers, after a mixed start to their campaign, showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with when they handed previous leaders Luctonians their first defeat of the season.

Tigers went ahead in the opening minute when winger Peter Swatkins raced over.

Full-back John Feeley touched down for a second try inside the first 10 minutes before Luctonians’ Dale Garner crashed over for the Leominster side’s first try.

Tigers were again quickly off the mark after the resumption, second row Gregor Hayter crossing for a try, Johnny West landing the conversion kick.

The visitors again reduced the arrears when stand-off William Burton touched down for a try which John Morris converted.

Tigers claimed a bonus point when second row Richard Joel went over and West converted.

Luctonians had the final say when Dan Ruell sprinted over for a try which Morris converted.

Tigers, who have moved up to 11th place, spent most of the remaining six minutes in or near the visitors’ 22, and defended well when they needed to.
