For the Sharks it was the ninth consecutive win in all competitions, but it did not come easy.

Although it was the Sharks that came out on top the game did not go according to plan. Atiba Lyons’s men had to come out fighting after finding themselves 11 points down on the visitors midway through the second quarter.

Thankfully for the home side they managed to peg Plymouth back in the closing stages of the quarter and went into the half time break 42-43.

Sheffield’s lead at one stage stood at 11 points, but they failed to close the game out and their lead was cut to just two pointsbut Plymouth were unable to take their chances and the game into overtime.

Points from TJ Robinson – who finished with 24 points – and Mike Tuck in the dying moments were just enough for the hosts.

Sharks are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Plymouth for their BBL Trophy quarter-final tie.

Sheffield have reached the semi-finals in three of the past four seasons.

Sharks forward Patrick Horstmann said: “Plymouth are a dangerous team and have many weapons that can really hurt you. We know that we have to play our very best to get a chance to win both games.”

Leeds Force – whose game with Worcester Wolves was postponed last night after the visitors were involved in a traffic accident on their way to Yorkshire – travel to Bristol Flyers tonight in the league.

Flyers and Force are the lowest scoring teams in the BBL, in terms of points-per-game, averaging 70.76 and 68.26.
