Sheffield waiting for play-off news

Yorkshire 1

Sheffield, who will play off against the still to be decided runners-up in Durham and Northumberland One for a place in North Two East alongside champions Wheatley Hills, were pipped 24-23 in their final match at Keighley.

The home side did all the damage before the break, with stand-off Scott Dyson, fly-half Alex Brown and winger Sam Walker all touching down, and Brown kicked the conversions and a penalty.

Sheffield scored just one first half try through Joe Cribley, and another through prop Tom Marples after the break, and Donal Collins added both conversions and three penalties.

Bradford Salem withstood a second-half fightback by the visitors to run out 32-13 winners against Heath, who were previously level on league points.

Salem led 8-0 at half-time from a penalty by Jonathan Davies and a try from a rolling maul by prop Craig Buxton.

Heath pulled back a penalty before Salem increased their lead with an interception try by winger Steve McManus, and they were 20-3 ahead before Heath fought their way back.

With only two league points previously separating five teams, Malton & Norton jumped four places to eighth when they held on for a 16-12 win at Scarborough.

Malton looked to be heading for a clear win when they led 16-0 five minutes into the second half.

They had gone ahead inside the first minute with a try by prop Carl Muscroft, converted by Teei Piawi, and although they continued to dominate the first half, they were restricted to two penalties by Piawi and another just after the restart.

Scarborough scored their first try after 62 minutes when captain Chris Ingham was stopped short of the line and, from the resulting scrum, the ball was moved from right to left for winger Rob Squires to score in the corner.

Matty Jones was unlucky to hit the upright with the conversion but he had better luck when, with 11 minutes to go, Scarborough's 18-year-old debutant scrum-half Jake Rollinson made a blind side break and prop Paul Taylor, backing up, went over for the try.
