Sheffield Wednesday v Bristol Rovers: Operation blow for rising Owls star Coke

League one: ALAN IRVINE has revealed that Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Giles Coke has undergone exploratory surgery to try and get to the root of an ongoing knee problem.

The 24-year-old has been a regular for the Owls this season despite being troubled by the injury in recent weeks.

Manager Irvine said: "Giles is having an exploratory operation so we can find out exactly what the problem is.

"His knee has been troubling him for a few weeks and, hopefully, we can get to the bottom of it. It is a blow for Giles because he has had an excellent start to his career at Sheffield Wednesday.

"He has played well, scored some goals and looked a very good player."

Coke, who has been involved in all but four of Wednesday's 19 league outings, moved to Hillsborough last summer on a free transfer from Motherwell and has since netted four goals.

Irvine said: "As I have said from the start of the season, we have a good squad but not a big squad."
