SkyBet: Back United to keep the Elland Road faithful waiting

Sheffield Wednesday failed in their quest to avoid the drop when unable to beat Crystal Palace last Sunday.

The draw was not enough to ensure survival and they will face League One football at Hillsborough next term.

The Owls are 7-1 to bounce back as title winners and provided manager Alan Irvine is allowed to remain at the helm and that the squad is not decimated by departures, that price may prove value.

Hoping to replace the Owls are Leeds United, who know victory over Bristol Rovers at Elland Road this afternoon will ensure they are runners-up to champions Norwich City and are guaranteed promotion to the Championship.

The Whites are prohibitively short at 2-7 but will never have a better chance as visitors Bristol Rovers lie mid-table with nothing to play for, having already lost 14 times away.

A sell-out crowd is assured but with tensions sure to be running high, perhaps the value bet would be draw at half-time, Leeds to win at full-time at 3-1.

If Leeds are successful this weekend, they will be around 12-1 to win the Championship next season.

Our other Yorkshire League One side, Huddersfield Town, face a long journey to Exeter safe in the knowledge that they have already secured a play-off berth.

Once again, a tremendous home campaign at the Galpharm, where they only lost once in the league, has been the cornerstone of a successful season.

The Terriers have also toughened up on the road, recording nine away victories and they will make things difficult for an Exeter team desperate to win to ensure survival.

The 2-1 on offer for Huddersfield looks monster value when glancing at the league table and Town are 11-4 to win the play-offs.

In League Two, Rotherham are another Yorkshire side looking forward to the play-offs after guaranteeing their position by picking up a point against Crewe last weekend.

The Millers will be rueing the nine home draws, which ultimately could cost them automatic promotion.

They have had more success on the road with 11 victories but after suffering 10 losses as well it would be no surprise to see them succumb at form side Hereford.

One could forgive Rotherham for having one eye on the forthcoming play-offs, for which they are 5-2 favourites, so Hereford at 13-8 looks the call today.

Bradford visit Crewe in a battle of two teams who were both expected to be challenging for promotion rather than languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Both will be expected to improve considerably on this season's poor efforts and Bradford will be around the 12-1 mark for next season's title.

Crewe have had a shocking home record at Gresty Road, losing 11 times, and with the Bantams finishing the season better, the value call is the away victory at 2-1.
