Steeldogs hit the road in order to stay in touch at the top

WITH their high-flying Elite League neighbours out of town for the weekend, the English Premier League fixture list has not been kind to the Sheffield Steeldogs.

Ryan Finnerty has taken his Sheffield Steelers team to Denmark to take part in the Continental Cup, a situation which would normally see Sheffield’s second club benefit from some kind of attendance increase.

But the Steeldogs find themselves embarking on a double road trip of their own this weekend, first heading to Milton Keynes before heading to Shropshire on Sunday to face struggling Telford Tigers.

The Sheffield club remain in buoyant mood after taking three points from last weekend’s two games to leave them third in the table, level on points with Slough Jets and two behind new leaders Guildford Flames.

Milton Keynes will be eager to atone for their 4-1 defeat in Sheffield on Saturday, being undone by goals from Janis Ozolins, Greg Wood and Edgar Bebris (2). The Steeldogs hit the road on Sunday but went down 2-1 at Bracknell following a penalty shoot-out.

Sheffield lead the six-game series against Milton Keynes 2-0 having also beaten them 4-2 in early October. Their one previous visit to Telford ended in success last month, coming from behind to win 7-5.

Steeldogs’ next home game isn’t until Sunday, December 4 when they welcome title rivals Slough to Ice Sheffield (5.30pm).
