Steelers close gap on Scottish rivals

SHEFFIELD STEELERS closed the gap on nearest rivals Edinburgh Capitals to four points after coming from behind to secure a 3-2 Elite League victory.

With just 13 games remaining, Steelers will look to overhaul their Scottish rivals to secure, what should in theory, be a more favourable draw for the end-of-season play-offs.

The prolific Owen Fussey grabbed his 33rd goal of the season to put Edinburgh ahead on the powerplay at 9.12 and it wasn't until the second period that Steelers were able to hit back.

Doug Sheppard levelled on the powerplay at 26.45 for his 15th of the season before Jeff Legue once again came to the fore, grabbing the go-ahead goal at 35.54 before adding what proved to be the game-winner 14 seconds into the third.

Mark Garside made it a one-goal game again with a 50th-minute strike but Steelers were able to see out the remaining 10 minutes for their 15th regulation win of the season.

Steelers will now continue their tough schedule of four games in five days when they travel to Belfast Giants on Friday night.

They will then return to face the same opponents at Sheffield Arena before heading to East Yorkshire to take on Hull Stingrays on Sunday night.
