Stingrays hoping to close gap on rivals

While most eyes will be on the Elite League title duel between Cardiff and Sheffield this weekend, Hull Stingrays will hope to turn up the heat on their mid-table rivals.

Sylvain Cloutier’s team welcome ‘sister’ club Coventry Blaze to Hull Arena tomorrow (7.00) before welcoming the Braehead Clan to East Yorkshire the following night (6.00).

Catching fifth-placed Coventry may prove a tall order for Hull, who currently lie seventh in the standings, but they will see Sunday’s clash with Braehead as a chance to close the gap on their Scottish rivals in the battle for sixth place.

The Stingrays are currently eight points adrift of Braehead but with four games in hand and another match-up to come following Sunday’s game.

Hull defenceman Trevor Read, said: “These are two massive games for us.

“It is a huge opportunity and the guys are pretty excited. We know what we have to do.”
