Stingrays keep it tight to end losing streak

HULL Stingrays snapped a seven-game losing streak with a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Edinburgh Capitals.

The crucial moment for Sylvain Cloutier’s side came at 11.33 when Jereme Tendler found the net on the power play with his 21st goal of the campaign.

The result – Hull’s seventh against Gardinder Conference rivals – took bottom club Hull level on points in the overall Elite League table with Edinburgh, while also tying them with Braehead Clan at the top of the Conference standings.

It was a first shut-out of the campaign for netminder Ben Bowns, who made 24 saves – an achievement which player-coach Cloutier said was fully deserved.

“It was a massive win,” said Cloutier. “We played really well for 60 minutes, didn’t give them much and Bownsy made some big saves.

“It was a big moment for Bownsy. He has had a few chances this year but we have collapsed defensively. He deserves it - he has been a wall for us all season. He has been extremely solid for us and he is getting more and more confident.”
