Stingrays shut out as Panthers ease to victory

HULL STINGRAYS' poor run continued when they were beaten 5-0 by Elite League title hopefuls Nottingham Panthers at the National Ice Centre.

The match – doubling up as a Challenge Cup and league fixture – left Sylvain Cloutier's side still searching for their first victory in Group B of the Cup and extended their losing streak to four games.

Only one goal separated the teams after the first session and that came from the stick of David Beauregard at 3.21.

The home side went two in front with a goal from Jonathan Zion at 25.11. After Hull's Josef Sladok and Panthers' Guillaume Lepine received five-minute majors for fighting, two goals in two minutes put the Panthers four ahead as David Clarke netted on the powerplay at 36.05, before Robert Lachowicz fired home at 38.03.

Billy Ryan's powerplay goal at 41.38 completed a comfortable victory for the home side.

Cloutier had demanded a positive response from his players following Sunday night's disappointing 4-2 league defeat at home to the Cardiff Devils, which came on the back of a 7-4 Challenge Cup defeat in South Wales the previous day.
