Stockdale leads way for Great Britain

THE Gijon Nations Cup team has been announced by team manager Ron Hoekstra.

Great Britain's show-jumping squad will include Tim Stockdale and Fresh Direct Kalico Bay. This partnership took the King George V Gold Cup title at this year's Royal International Horse Show.

The winners at the Great Yorkshire Show of the International Stairway competition, Robert Bevis and Courtney 6, will represent Great Britain for the second time this year after making their Nations Cup debut in Lisbon.

World Equestrian Games (WEG) team members David McPherson and Chamberlain Z will also be in the team along with Scott Brash, who will ride his WEG partner, Intertoy Z.

The competition begins on Friday with the Grand Prix taking place on Sunday.

THERE were record entries for the North Eastern Driving Trials group's recent event at Newby Hall in perfect weather.

Father and son John and Ross Wilkinson took the Novice Horse and Novice Pony classes, respectively. The Open Pony class was won by Jane Wilson from North Newbald. In the Open Horse section, Northumberland's Susan Henry not only won the class but also took the rosette for the best dressage and lowest overall score of the event.

In the pre-novice section, designed to introduce people to the sport, Ripon's Marnie Summers pulled out all the stops around the six obstacles to win the 12-strong class.
