Storey on target to put title in sight

Yorkshire One

Wheatley Hills moved a step nearer to clinching the title with a 17-9 home victory over Keighley, but second-placed Sheffield slipped up as Castleford closed in with a 10-6 home win over them.

Tries from full-back Mark Sanderson and flanker Tom Buckenham helped Wheatley Hills to victory, and Dan Storey kicked both conversions and a penalty.

Castleford's win came thanks to a try from full-back Craig Jeffels, and Dame Turner added the conversion and fly-half Carl Paterson a drop goal.

Bradford Salem, in fourth position, slipped up 13-8 in their home match against ninth- placed Scarborough.

Scarborough took the lead with a penalty by prop Matty Jones and went 10-0 ahead at half-time through a try by full-back Graeme Jeffrey, converted by Jones.

Salem fought their way back with a penalty by Jonathan Davies and a pushover try credited to No 8 Johnny Luxton, but Jones's second penalty took some pressure off the visitors, who were forced into defence in the closing stages with Salem camped on their line.

Dinnington replied with a third penalty and a try by No 8 Paul Mitchell, but Malton stayed clear with full-back Ian Cooke's try, again converted by Piawi.

Heath moved ahead of their rivals in mid-table with a 28-17 win at York.
