Students are delighted to recruit Hodge

OLYMPIC gold medallist Andrew Triggs Hodge has been named honorary captain of Leeds Metropolitan University’s fledgling Carnegie Rowing Club.

The Yorkshire-born world champion, who won gold at both the Beijing and London Games, was presented with his club kit by the society’s head coach, Leeds Met physiotherapy student Laura Richardson, at Great Britain’s rowing base in Eton Dorney.

Richardson, 20, who set up the rowing club last year with fellow under-graduate Nick Musson, 21, said: “We could not be more thrilled to have Andy as captain.”

Since launching, the club, who share facilities at Roundhay Park with Leeds RC, have gained more than 20 members who compete at regattas around the country.
