Sun shines on York’s opening day of the season

THE sun shone on York Racecourse on Wednesday for the opening day of the top-class three-day Betfred Dante meeting which swung into gear backed by impressive new facilities and record-breaking prize-money on the Knavesmire.

Wednesday’s fixture provided lift off following a record investment of over £1m in prize money, and the unveiling of the Northern End Development featuring the new Moët Pavilion alongside a new Weighing Room, and Owner’s welcome building.

Huge crowds are expected to flock to all three-days of the meeting at which the feature race - the Betfred Dante - is staged on Wednesday afternoon and features ante-post Derby favourite Jack Hobbs.

Prize money over the three days of the Dante Festival has risen by £75,000, with all of the feature Group contests receiving a boost.
