Teen Womersley comes close to Trophy triumph

JUNIOR cyclo-cross ace Jake Womersley came within inches of taking victory in the third round of the prestigious National Trophy Series in Southampton yesterday.

The 16-year-old Sportscover rider from Mirfield was pipped on the line by Belgian rival Jelle Vanden Dries at the end of the race, which also saw other Yorkshire riders record good results.

Bradford Olympic team-mates Billy Harding and Ben Pygott took fourth and fifth respectively in the junior category, while Sheffield-based Adela Carter (Hope Factory Racing) was second in the women’s race behind multiple national champion Louise Robinson.
