Titans are up with the Joneses as new season looms large

Rotherham Titans, who have finished fourth in the last two seasons and are now under the guidance of Welshman Mark Jones, have signed versatile back Ross Jones from Ospreys.

The 23-year-old former Wales Under-20s representative can play either in the back three or at fly-half.

Jones said: “I wasn’t getting enough game time at the Ospreys and after a conversation with Mark Jones the opportunity arose to join Rotherham and I’m excited about joining the club.

“The standard in the Championship and at Rotherham is very good and I know I’ll have to work hard in order to get an opportunity to break into the first-team squad.”

Titans head coach Mark Jones added: “I’ve been assessing the squad since my arrival at the club and we’re probably a little bit light in terms of numbers in the back three in particular.

“Ross is very experienced and he’ll add a lot of depth to that area of our squad.

“He’s come through the age grades and he’s been part of a very professional organisation at Ospreys and he arrives here with Heineken Cup experience, having played against the likes of Toulouse.

“He’s a good character as well, and we want good characters.”

Rotherham begin their campaign on Sunday when they entertain newcomers Ealing Trailfinders at the one-off base of Herringthorpe Stadium on Sunday, the same day as Yorkshire Carnegie commence their bid for the top two against Jersey at Headingley.

Doncaster Knights welcome relegated London Welsh to Castle Park 24 hours earlier.
