Titans hoping to banish their worst nightmare of 2009

National leagues: ROTHERHAM Titans hope to start the new year by banishing one of their worst memories from the last.

They entertain high-flying Nottingham at Clifton Lane tomorrow with October's 46-0 thrashing in the reverse Championship fixture still fresh in their minds.

Coach Craig West admitted: "That was probably our most disappointing display of the season. Naturally, we're looking to claw back some credibility and make a fist of it at home. We're confident of doing that.

"Nottingham do have a good link-up with Leicester Tigers and have a lot of senior players coming back to fitness.

"But we've given everyone a real good run at home and will look to do the same again."

With their fixture against Birmingham & Solihull called off on Boxing Day and again on Monday due to a frozen surface, there will be another pitch inspection at 9.30 this morning to see if today's game can go ahead.

However, if the Clifton Lane pitch is deemed unsuitable once more, Rotherham have already discussed with the RFU about possibly playing the game tomorrow.

Doncaster Knights expect their contest at Coventry to go ahead and are bolstered by the return from injury of two players.

Fly-half James Brooks has been out for the last two months while back-row Adam Kettle is back following a three-week lay-off to give coach Lynn Howells plenty of options.

"Our game against Nottingham was called off because of the weather but we've told the squad picked then that we might make changes," he said. "It will be a physical game. Coventry came up here and got the result at Castle Park but also their forwards were better than ours.

"That doesn't happen very often at Doncaster.

"They've been put into administration and seem to have got tighter as a group since so we know it's going to be a hard contest."
