Tordoff leads the way in BTCC after Oulton Park masterclass

After a strong first race in which the Team JCT600 with GardX driver had guided his BMW to an excellent second place behind Colin Turkington, Tordoff went one better in race two when he claimed victory after seeing off Turkington and Jason Plato.

“Getting a good start was probably the difference between winning and coming second to be honest,” said Tordoff of his race two victory. “The key is consistency and that’s been the aim this weekend, it was all about getting the lead and just consolidating.

“I was cautious of what was going to happen in the second part of the race with Colin (Turkington) behind but he didn’t have an answer for us. We changed a lot in terms of setup between races one and two and the car managed the weight beautifully.

“Credit to the team and my engineer.”

Then, after starting the third race back in seventh place with maximum ballast, the Yorkshireman put in another storming display to make his way up through the field to an excellent second place behind race winner Matt Neal.

Tordoff now has 139 points in the BTCC championship standings, one point clear of three-time champion Neal on 138 points. Fellow BMW driver Rob Collard is in third place on 113 points.

North Yorkshire is the next stop in the championship series when Croft Circuit takes centre-stage on the weekend of June 18-19.

It was also an excellent weekend for another Leeds driver – Dan Cammish – at Oulton Park.

Defending champion Cammish took another two victories in the Porsche Carerra Cup GB series, seeing off Stephen Jelley to take the chequered flag on Saturday and then producing a peerless drive to claim victory in today’s race.

Cammish now leads the overall standings by 20 points from Dino Zamparelli.
